Animal Rights Killers

Friday, March 30th, 2007
I've told you many times before about the animal rights extremists who seem to have no respect for the animals they're supposed to "protect."

For example, PETA, supposedly People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, kills more than 80 percent of the dogs and cats it takes in.  Humane Society employees were recently caught on tape ignoring a dying seal in the Arctic while they filmed a fundraising appeal.

And the latest madness from the animal rights loonies comes from Germany, where activists are calling for a healthy four-month-old polar bear to be put to death.

Why? The cub was rejected by its mother, and the extremists say that the cub, housed in a zoo, should die because that's the way nature intended.

As hunters, we know all too well what can happen when wildlife populations go unchecked.  We know that controlled hunting is essential to effective wildlife management.  But this bear isn't in the wild, it's in a zoo.  And the only reason to kill it is to satisfy the insanity of the animal rights extremists, who think that, because this bear has been raised by humans, it isn't "pure" enough to live.

You can be sure the animal rights crowd is upside down when they're the ones advocating killing an animal, and a hunter like me says it should live.

A beautiful story…

The Iraq spending bill has so much pork in it that [insert bacon joke here]

$24 billion in pork projects. Including $74 million for a peanut storage facility (?) and $25 million to grow spinach.

President Bush and Senator McCain have both expressed their distaste for these projects.

I’m sure the folks at Citizens Against Government Waste have something to say (Here it is, in the NY times).

Its getting vetoed anyway, I hope.

DiFi the profiteer

Friday, March 30th, 2007

By: Carlos S. Ramirez

Seems like Senator Fienstein got herself in some hot water.

She has resigned from the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee, after it came out that her husband, owner of two defense contracting firms, profited from billion dollar appropriations approved by her committee.

Here’s Rush Limbaugh’s view.

I apologize for the lack of mainstream media sources on this post, but for some reason, they seem to not want to report this (a google news search only brought up opinion pieces). Wonder how they would have treated this same scandal had DiFi been one of the ones with an “R” after her name.

Attacks on Giuliani

Friday, March 30th, 2007

By: Carlos S. Ramirez

The recent attacks by some Newy York City firefighters groups on Rudi Giuliani’s handling of 9/11 are just one more example of hindsight being 20/20.

As far as I know, the complaint that first responder’s radios were inadequate never surfaced until after the attacks. No one really bothered to say, on or before 9/10/2001 “Hey, these radios aren’t good enough.” The fact is, these firefighters are still bitter about the contract dispute that the FDNY had with the City in Guiliani’s second term, and now they want to tank his candidacy.

News flash to these firefighters, you may all be mad, but the rest of the country will put Rudy on a pedestal.

SecDef recommends closing Gitmo.

CNN reported this morning that Defense Secretary Robert Gates called for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba.

Gates however, did say that some of the detainees held in Gitmo should be incarcerated for life.

The one problem I have with this: Democrats in Congress will declare victory, as they grand-stand about how they were right, while the true credit should fall on the administration, specifically Secretary Gates.

Citizens Offend Atlanta Paper

Thursday, March 29th, 2007
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is offended.  They won't quite come out and say it, but the paper's editors are offended by you-and any other citizen who calls legislators to express their views.

It's no surprise that the Journal-Constitution opposes SB 43, a bill in the Georgia Senate that would allow employees with Right-to-Carry permits to keep firearms locked in their cars.  In fact, the newspaper had predicted that the bill would never reach the Senate floor for debate.

But the Journal-Constitution was wrong ... again.  In fact, thanks to the help of NRA members and gun owners all over Georgia, SB 43 will indeed come up for a full Senate vote.  Much to the chagrin of the Journal-Constitution.

"We're told the NRA cut loose with a heavy round of robo calls over the weekend," the newspaper reported.

As if NRA members shouldn't have their voices heard.  As if Georgia's gun owners don't have a right to call their state lawmakers.

Just like most of the anti-gun media, the Journal-Constitution can't stand the fact that NRA members actively participate in our democracy.

It may offend the media ... but we defend our freedom.

Fred Thompson, revisited.

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

By: Carlos S. Ramirez

I post about Fred Thompson as a candidate for President, and then the next day I read this piece from the lefties at Slate attacking him.

Then I find this piece on CNN about how James Dobson thinks that Thompson is “not a Christian”.

Now, while I do intend to write a piece about how Conservatism and Christianity do not always HAVE to go together, and I will discuss that later, I have to raise an eyebrow at Dobson, who would rather have Newt Gingrich be the candidate.

Thompson is in fact a Christian, and the fact that he keeps his faith to himself is of no one’s concern. All that Dobson, and the rest of the christian right should focus on, is that Thompson is a candidate who cares about their issues, possibly more than any other Republican out there.

As a Catholic, who also keeps his faith to himself, I understand why Thompson does not want to make an issue of this. Once you do, certain groups and denominations automatically assume they have you in their pocket, and then denounce you when you say something opposite to their thoughts.

In the end, Thompson is still the most clasically conservative candidate out there, and while James Dobson may have issues with that, I am sure he’d rather see Thompson than Hillary Clinton in the White House come 2008.
